During the week 18.-24. 2. 2024 part of the CARDIKARST team (A. Perşoiu, C. Pennos, M. Blatnik, D. Paar, N. Buzjak) participated at the international scientific expedition in Scărișoara Ice Cave (Parcul Natural Apuseni). It was organized by dr. Aurel Perşoiu (Institute of Speleology Romania), member of the CARDIKARST team. We cooperated with experts from Romania, Slovakia, Greece, Norway, Hungary, North Macedonia, Slovenia, USA and Croatia in microclimate, geomorphological, geophysical & biological research, laser scanning & photogrammetry, sediment & ice sampling and geomorphological mapping. To our colleagues we also demonstrated some techniques applied in CARDIKARST field work & research considering data sampling and CO2 measurements in air & water.
At the workshop ““Winter climate in SE Europe during the Late Holocene” we had invited lecture “CAVE CLIMATE MONITORING – WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED FROM CARDIKARST SO FAR?” conducted by Nenad Buzjak. It was an opportunity to present our work and to discuss challenges in microclimate and CO2 research .
During the expedition members of the project had two project meetings considering research methods, data analysis and publications.
The financing of the event was provided by the PalAeolus project, financed by UEFISCDI Romania and partly by the CARDIKARST project, financed by ARSS (Slovenia) and HRZZ (Croatia) and PACER, financed by the University of Thessaloniki (Greece). The work of the workshop and the studies in the Scarișoara Glacier Cave were supported by the Administration of the Apuseni Natural Park and the Scarișoara Ghețar Guesthouse, which provided the necessary spaces for accommodation and activities.
